I own the dmr-ez48v version of this box. Keep in mind different models different problems. I've owned mine for a year now, & don't have anything bad to say ... really(well a plug in for the antenna amp would be nice). Let me just say 1 box many uses equal far less of a rat nest of wires behind the tv. If you have extension cords keep an eye on them I see on the news far too many times houses burning to the ground because of electrical fire. Remember the hoopla concerning digital from analog? It seemed to be rip off those digital converter boxes that only served 1 purpose. Just liked those converter boxes sold when dvd first came out that allowed you to hook up your dvd player to an older tv that only had coax input(remember genesis snes rf adapters?). Rip off! My vcr served as my cable box and/or over the air receiver, & allowed me to hook up my dvd player to one of my older tv's. But this box does all that. Plus my set up is future proofed for when I purchase a HDTV. Even if you own an older TV that only has coax input you can get this box & know that it will work with your TV. I hooked my 8 bit Nintendo via composite & audio splitter (to fake stereo), & was nicely impressed. I have s-video stereo to my TV, & fiber-optic to my surround sound. Tetris anyone? The point is this box can save you a load of hassle if old school hook up is your thing, or if you simply want to watch TV(cable or over the air), movies(DIVx), or music CD(or mp3 via the USB port). Like I said less crap/converters plugged in. Less fire hazard. Use your extension cords wisely check regularly for over loading. If your cord looks burnt replace it, & look to minimize. Don't let fire force you out of home, & move into an apartment were pets aren't allowed. This box might help, & there are other all in one boxes. This day and age I really have to insist that people do their homework when it comes to electronic purchases. So many choices in the technologies between company a & company b to keep in mind when buying media players or HDTV's.
