I really held off into buing a bluray player for a while, I figured it was time. After just looking at other reviews I decided to stick with the Panasonic brand. I have at lest 3 other panasonic brands in my home right now that after about 6 to 8 yrs are still going strong. I personally find that the dvd players/recorders made by Panasonic are the easiest to use out of the box if you are familiar with them first off and secondly this is your basic run of the mill player if you think about it, it just happens to play bluray discs. You will see a little difference in the way standard dvd plays and blu ray plays, (my wife can't though, thats how good it is), anyway do you need the Viera cast options built in or the analog 5.1 out like the other players? No, because if you have a nice receiver it will do the sound all w/the HDMI cord. I don't really care about that other stuff I don't have a use for it yet at all but if you want the wireless, and netflix etc and all that go with the BD80, I personally just want to use it for the movies. Load time takes a few more secs, big deal. My old Toshiba HDDVD took at least 30sec. to load, this one is maybe half that. As far as freezing issues I haven't seen it at all, maybe it's because it's the firmware 2.2 download I did before even playing a movie in it. But I'm using monster cables and have a nice Sony TV hooked up and the picture is great, I played at least 3 bluray movies so far on it with no probs. By all means buy this entry level bluray plyr, easy hook up, firmware download was easy and might be needed, look for it on sale too like I did and you will be very pleased.

Arrived on time, great price and a solid player. Jumped right on the home network and updated. Picture quality is excellent, would be the perfect player if it was linked up with netflix but I guess that would be the next model up. I'd def buy again.
